Indonesia Voices Strong Support for UN Summit Promoting Two-State Solution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is one of the primary supporters of the High-Level Conference for the Peaceful Resolution of the Palestinian Issue and Implementation of the Two-State Solution, which will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on June 17.

France and Saudi Arabia are sponsoring the upcoming UN conference.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Roy Soemirat, stated in a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday, June 12, 2025, that the conference specifically focuses on the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue.

"Various outcome documents are currently being prepared and are expected to be ratified and adopted during the conference," Roy stated.

Together with Italy, Indonesia leads one of the conference's working groups. This group focuses on security aspects related to the two states or regional security within the framework of implementing the two-state solution.

Roy emphasized that Indonesia will use this conference's momentum to continue urging the international community to increase pressure on Israel. This is to encourage Tel Aviv to stop all violence in Gaza and end the illegal occupation of Palestine.

"Indonesia will continue to push the international community to recognize Palestine as an independent state," Roy said.

This conference is expected to be an important diplomatic platform that will strengthen international support for the two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, a solution that has long been supported by the international community.

The meeting is convened following Israel's genocide in Gaza over the last 20 months. The casualties, injuries, severe disabilities, and children without a single family member have become the lamentable stories of the Palestinian people in that area.

The Gaza Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday that the number of Palestinian casualties from Israeli attacks over the past 20 months in the area has exceeded 55,000, with women and children comprising more than half of the casualties.
