Expansion Plan: Indomaret to Open 1,000 New Stores by Year-End

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Indomarco Prismatama (Indomaret) announced plans to open 1,000 new stores across Indonesia by the end of 2025. Director of Marketing at Indomaret, Wiwiek Yusuf, revealed the plan after signing a memorandum of understanding with the Ansor Youth Movement (GP Ansor) on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

"Around 1,000 stores, by the end of the year," said Wiwiek at the GP Ansor Headquarters, Central Jakarta.

The new stores will be scattered across the country, in a bid to explore new businesses in Eastern Indonesia. "We're starting with the east (of Indonesia)," he said. 

Indomaret also has yet to open stores in West Sumatra, but Wiwiek said the company has branched out to Aceh.

"We have yet to reach many regions, including Eastern Indonesia and Padang. But we have entered Aceh," he said.

According to Wiwiek, licensing seems to be the major obstacle for Indomaret's expansion plan to West Sumatra. But he deemed it fair, as other modern retailers also have not been able to crack into the West Sumatran markets. 

"If it's not allowed, then it's not allowed for everyone, right?" he said.

As for the eastern part of Indonesia, the obstacle lies in logistics. Before opening stores in the region, according to Wiwiek, the logistics must be arranged in such a way that they could reach the most remote areas of the country.

"Logistics is more of a challenge in the east," he said. "How the logistics can reach the remote areas. We must consider this before entering the markets."
