TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Looking for a vacation that doubles as a laugh-filled escape? A recent survey by global money transfer company Remitly has revealed the funniest countries in the world, offering a unique guide for your next stress-relieving trip.

This ranking was compiled from a survey of over 6,000 individuals across 30 nations. Participants completed the Humor Styles Questionnaire, a psychological instrument developed in 2003 by researcher Rod Martin. This tool is designed to assess not only an individual's comedic aptitude but also their specific approach to expressing humor.

The survey revealed that the Czech Republic leads the list of the funniest countries in the world. With a score of 72.33, the nation is characterized by its aggressive humor.

Remitly describes their comedic style as "a potent mix of self-deprecation, razor-sharp irony, and expertly wielded sarcasm." Czech humor is not boisterous or theatrical; it is subtle, relying on precise sarcasm and a deadpan delivery.

"Czechs have refined humour into a survival tool, using wit as psychological armour that has evolved into a defining national characteristic," Remitly explained.

Portugal comes in second with a score of 71.42. Remitly notes that Portuguese humor leans towards both affiliative and aggressive styles, resulting in a combination of warmth and wit. "Known for their quick-thinking jokes, they often use humour to charm, tease and disarm," the company stated.

Ireland secures the third position with a score of 71.18. This result likely comes as no surprise to those familiar with the Irish, who scored highly for both affiliative and self-enhancing humor.

Remitly noted, "This may align with the Irish’s reputation for friendliness and excellent storytelling. It’s a great combination of humour styles, leading to citizens of Ireland being sharp, charming, and relatable."
