TEMPO.CO, Bandung - State-owned aircraft maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) is expanding its Aircraft Services (ACS) business line to encompass the general aviation sector. This move signifies a shift beyond military aircraft maintenance, as PTDI now offers a wide range of maintenance services for commercial aircraft, including a focus on private jets across diverse market segments and work scopes.

"Indonesia's geographical location as an archipelagic nation creates a very high demand for air transportation," stated Daud Zaini, Head of the Maintenance Division at PTDI's Assembly and Modification Center, in a statement on Monday, August 4, 2025.

He continued, "However, unfortunately, commercial aircraft and private jet maintenance is still largely performed in neighboring countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and even Australia, where they benefit from comprehensive support through large, world-class MROs."

Daud emphasized that this situation presents both a challenge and a significant opportunity for PTDI to compete within the global MRO industry. "[Our goal is] to advance the national aerospace industry by providing maintenance services for commercial aircraft and private jets operating within the Republic of Indonesia," he affirmed.

PTDI's ACS offerings cover a wide array of services such as aircraft Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO), component repairs, structural modifications, Life Extension Programs, and specialized services including painting and Non-Destructive Test (NDT) inspections.

These services are conducted at PTDI's hangar facility in Bandung, which holds an Aircraft Maintenance Organization (AMO) Certificate and Design Organization Approval (DOA) from the Directorate of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operations (DKPPU) of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation. All operations are supported by an ISO 9001 and AS/EN 9110 Quality Management System (QMS).

One of the expansions involves the launch of new livery paint services for general aviation, specifically targeting various types of private jets like the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ), Gulfstream G450/G550, and Embraer Legacy 600/650. This service can be further customized to include a variety of advanced offerings based on customer requests and specifications.

PTDI has already provided painting services for commercial aircraft, particularly narrow-body aircraft. This includes comprehensive work such as painting, seat replacement, and additional tasks like cabin refurbishment for an Airbus A319 belonging to Aero Airlines in Dili, Timor Leste. Currently, a major maintenance (C-Check) is underway at the PTDI hangar for an Airbus A320 belonging to Citilink Indonesia, a collaborative program between PTDI and GMF AeroAsia.

The strategic collaboration between PTDI and GMF AeroAsia is expected to significantly optimize cooperation within the national MRO industry. This will be achieved through strengthening technical capabilities, increasing workforce capacity, conducting specialized training, and developing advanced work aids.

"This collaboration not only generates sustainable employment opportunities for Citilink's fleet and other potential customers but also encourages an overall increase in PTDI's capital," Daud Zaini explained.

This is part of PTDI's broader strategy to transform its Bandung hangar into an integrated MRO service center capable of handling diverse aircraft types, encompassing both military and commercial fleets. To date, PTDI's ACS has served over 50 customers across three continents.

PTDI is also actively pursuing authorization from international aviation authorities (foreign authority approval) to enhance its competitiveness and broaden its global market reach. PTDI's aim is not only to deliver high-quality aircraft maintenance services but also to foster the growth of a self-sufficient domestic MRO industry. "The quality of our services is a guarantee we will not compromise on. Consistency with standards and customer satisfaction are the main foundations of every ACS project at PTDI," he concluded.
