Middle East Conflict Escalates, Indonesia Devises Plans to Avoid Flight Disruptions

7 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation is working with AirNav Indonesia, national airlines, and foreign authorities to ensure safe and smooth flights amid potential disruptions due to the Middle East conflict.

The Director General of Civil Aviation, Lukman F. Laisa, said the government is monitoring the situation in the region and working with all relevant parties to avoid disrupting national flights. "We are coordinating with AirNav Indonesia, national airlines, and the civil aviation authorities of relevant countries to ensure the safety and smoothness of flights, especially those crossing the Middle East airspace," said Lukman when confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

He explained that the step is taken in response to the escalation of conflict in the Middle East region, particularly between Iran and Israel, as well as the temporary closure of several airspaces in the area.

Lukman said some airspaces and flight paths in several Flight Information Regions (FIR) are still closed. "Including the western part of the Tehran FIR, partial closure of flight paths in the Tel Aviv FIR, Dubai FIR, and Cairo FIR," he said.

Therefore, the Ministry of Transportation, through the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, is asking national airlines to continue monitoring the airspace conditions in the Middle East, adjust flight paths if necessary, and prepare alternative scenarios to minimize operational disruptions, including for Hajj and Umrah flights.

The ministry also advises the public to remain calm and follow official information from airlines and aviation authorities. Lukman emphasized that flight safety and security remain the top priority.
