Top 5 Countries in Global Competitiveness Rankings

3 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Institute of Management Development (IMD) has released its annual World Competitiveness Ranking (WCR) 2025 report. This report provides a comprehensive overview of the competitiveness positions of 69 countries worldwide based on various economic, governance, infrastructure, and business dynamics indicators.

Based on this year's ranking, there have been several position shifts in the list of the top five countries with the best competitiveness globally. Switzerland has managed to top the list, climbing one position from the previous year. The country is considered to have strong macroeconomic stability, an excellent education system, and an innovation ecosystem that fosters private-sector growth. The rise in Switzerland's ranking shows consistency in maintaining government efficiency and long-term economic management.

Singapore is the runner-up, dropping one position from the previous year. Despite this, the Merlion State continues to demonstrate high performance in several key aspects of competitiveness, such as bureaucratic quality, development of digital infrastructure, and the effectiveness of fiscal policies. This decline is primarily due to the increased performance of other countries compared to Singapore's overall decline.

Hong Kong takes third after jumping two spots from the previous year. This improvement is largely supported by consistent economic recovery and increased efficiency in the trade and finance sectors.

Meanwhile, previously in third place, Denmark has dropped one spot to fourth. This decline occurred despite the country maintaining high governance and technological innovation standards.

This year, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is ranked fifth, up two spots from last year. This increase reflects the UAE government's systematic efforts to promote economic diversification, enhance digital investment, and develop a competitive business ecosystem in the Middle East.

Overall, the top five most competitive countries in the world according to the World Competitiveness Ranking 2025 are:

1. Switzerland (up 1 position)

2. Singapore (down 1 position)

3. Hong Kong (up 2 positions)

4. Denmark (down 1 position)

5. United Arab Emirates (UAE) (up 2 positions)

The WCR ranking is compiled using a methodological approach that combines 262 indicators. Of these, 170 indicators are hard data collected from various national and international statistical sources, while the remaining 92 are the result of perception surveys from over 6,000 executives from several countries. These indicators are categorized into four major groups: economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure.
