TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - U.S. President Donald Trump has officially extended the deadline for blocking the TikTok app until September 17, 2025. This marks the third postponement, as outlined in an executive order issued on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
“During this period, the Department of Justice shall take no action to enforce the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act or impose any penalties against any entity for any noncompliance with the Act,” the executive order stated, as quoted from the official White House website.
“The Attorney General shall take all appropriate action to issue written guidance to implement the provisions of subsection (a) of this section,” it continued.
The Attorney General is also directed to send letters to each provider, confirming that no violations of the law have occurred and no liability will arise from actions taken during the extended period.
TikTok has been facing the threat of a ban in the United States since early 2025. The U.S. government has raised concerns over possible data breaches and Chinese government influence, given that TikTok is owned by Beijing-based ByteDance.
President Trump offered TikTok two options: face a ban or continue operating under the condition that its ownership is transferred to a U.S.-based entity. So far, however, no American company has agreed to acquire ByteDance.
