
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Three government office buildings in Puncak Jaya Regency, Papua Province, were allegedly set on fire by unknown individuals in the early hours of Friday, June 20, 2025. According to the police, the three burnt buildings are the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) office, the Health Office, and the Ministry of Religion.
The Puncak Jaya Police are currently investigating the cause of the arson. "The Puncak Jaya Police are currently delving into and investigating the case of the burning of the three office buildings," the police said in a written statement on Friday.
Puncak Jaya Police Chief Police Commissioner Achmad Fauzan stated that at 00:15 WIT (Indonesia Eastern Time), the Puncak Jaya Police guard team received a report from the District Office Guard Post about the fire at the Health Office. Subsequently, the officers went to the location of the fire with a firetruck to extinguish the blaze.
An hour later, the Puncak Jaya Police received a report of another fire at the Puncak Jaya DPRD Office. The officers immediately went to the location to extinguish the fire. The police suspect that the arson was carried out by unknown individuals.
Around 3:00 a.m. WIT, the Ministry of Religion office was reported to be on fire after the DPRD office. "At 02:58 WIT, another fire was monitored at one of the offices, namely the Ministry of Religion of Puncak Jaya Regency, which is suspected to have been carried out by OTK," said Achmad.
The Criminal Investigation Unit of Puncak Jaya Police has conducted a crime scene investigation at the three buildings. The investigation was carried out in the morning. "This morning, the Criminal Investigation Unit of Puncak Jaya Police conducted a crime scene investigation at the three office buildings that were set on fire by OTK," he said.
Achmad then called on the public to remain calm and to refrain from further acts of arson, whether against residences or offices.
He stated that the Puncak Jaya Police will investigate the perpetrators of the arson at the three government office buildings. "We are also continuing to investigate who set fire to these three office buildings," he added.
