Brentford Beat Chelsea 3-0 to Move Into Premier League Top Three

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chelsea suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brentford in the fifth week of the Premier League at Gtech Community Stadium in London on Friday, September 18.

Jaidon Anthony, Igor Thiago and Fabio Carvalho scored for Brentford, handing Chelsea their first defeat at the stadium.

Chelsea started strongly and created the better chances in the opening 45 minutes.

Pedro Neto forced an excellent save from Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in the 10th minute after receiving a cross from Pep Chavarria.

Morgan Rogers also came close when his shot from a central position was blocked by Jannik Schuster following a pass from Chavarria.

Brentford were largely limited to set pieces and long throws as Chelsea controlled possession and looked more threatening. However, neither side could find a breakthrough before halftime.

Brentford Break the Deadlock

According to Chelsea FC official site, Brentford came out faster after the break and nearly took the lead when Anthony's header struck the top of the crossbar. Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez got a slight touch on the effort, although the offside flag was raised.

Brentford eventually opened the scoring in the 61st minute.

A corner from Mikkel Damsgaard was headed back across goal by Schuster, allowing the unmarked Anthony to head the ball into the net from close range.

Chelsea responded by increasing the pressure. Jordan Henderson's dangerous corner almost produced an equalizer, while Valentin Barco saw a penalty appeal waved away.

Chelsea had five shots blocked between the 66th and 80th minutes as they tried to get back into the game.

Brentford Add Two Late Goals

Chelsea's pressure left space for Brentford to counterattack, and the hosts took advantage in the 83rd minute.

Schade broke into the Chelsea area and saw his shot saved by Martinez, but the rebound fell to Thiago, who finished from close range to make it 2-0.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso then sent on 16-year-old Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli for his senior debut.

There was still time for Brentford to add another goal. Schade's cross was deflected into the path of Carvalho, who fired home at the far post in the fourth minute of added time.

The final whistle confirmed a 3-0 victory for Brentford.

The result left Chelsea on seven points from five matches, while Brentford moved up to third with nine points.
