BTN Supports Sustainable Urban Development by Planting 10,000 Mangroves in Kuta, Bali

BUSINESS INFO - PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN), together with the Simbar Segara Community-Based Enterprise (KUB), planted 10,000 mangrove seedlings in the Simbar Segara conservation area in Pemogan, Denpasar, Bali, on Friday (August 7). This activity, carried out through the BTN KPR (Coastal Regrowth Area) Program, is part of efforts to strengthen the resilience of coastal areas against erosion, support blue carbon sequestration, and empower communities in a sustainable manner.

The program is also in line with Danantara Indonesia’s mission to encourage state-owned enterprises to create long-term value through sustainable business growth and to generate positive impacts on both communities and the environment. For BTN, as a bank focused on housing finance, housing sustainability is determined not only by the buildings themselves but also by the quality of the environment in which communities live.

BTN Director of Risk Management Setiyo Wibowo said that mangrove planting is not merely a conservation activity, but is part of the implementation of BTN’s sustainability strategy and the Company’s commitment to conducting responsible banking operations.

“For BTN, this isn’t just about conservation. From a broader strategic perspective, it is one of the key pillars of our vision and mission: to conduct banking operations that are responsible toward society and the environment,” said Setiyo.

According to Setiyo, this commitment is also reflected in BTN’s ESG roadmap, which integrates environmental, social, and governance aspects into the Company’s activities, including business development.

“In every business expansion, one of the aspects we evaluate is ESG, including how the environment is managed. Today’s event is an example of how BTN’s ESG is implemented through concrete actions, one of which is mangrove planting,” he said.

The BTN Mortgage Program also combines conservation with community empowerment through “Nabung Mangrove,” “Investasi Kehati” (which involves the release of mangrove crabs), “Batara Aksi” (which provides training in ecoprinting and the processing of mangrove-derived products), and “Bale Corner” to improve financial literacy and the digitization of transactions using QRIS.

Meanwhile, Made Yudha Wibawa, Technical Policy Analyst at the Ngurah Rai Tahura UPTD, representing the Head of the Ngurah Rai Tahura UPTD, expressed appreciation for BTN’s contribution to both the rehabilitation of the area and community empowerment.

“We greatly appreciate BTN for assisting with the rehabilitation program while empowering the community. We hope this collaboration does not end today but continues to help the group grow and become increasingly self-reliant,” said Made.

Ketut Darsana, Chair of the Simbar Segara Community Group (KUB), stated that his group—established in 2014—now helps protect and manage approximately 32 hectares of mangrove forest, while also developing ecotourism as a source of community income and a tool for environmental education.

“We hope this collaboration with BTN will be sustainable. We need various stakeholders to work together to carry out the mission of protecting this mangrove forest,” said Ketut.

The program in Bali continues BTN’s commitment to coastal ecosystem rehabilitation. From 2025 to 2026, the Company has planted 20,100 mangrove seedlings at six locations: Paser, Makassar, Brebes, Pekalongan, the Thousand Islands, and Bali.

Through collaboration with Danantara Indonesia, the government, and local communities, BTN continues to promote environmental conservation alongside economic empowerment, while strengthening more resilient and sustainable residential ecosystems. (*)
