TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least seven people, including children, a pregnant woman, and her unborn baby , were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting an apartment building in Gaza City’s Tel al-Hawa neighborhood in the early hours of Wednesday, July 23, 2025, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, as cited by Anadolu. Several others were injured.
In a separate incident, Israeli forces reportedly struck an ambulance near Hamad Rehabilitation Hospital in northwest Gaza City, injuring medical personnel, according to medical sources quoted by the news agency.
Widespread Starvation
A coalition of humanitarian groups, including Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders (MSF), and Oxfam, warned that “mass starvation” is spreading throughout Gaza, with aid workers suffering from hunger themselves.
"Doctors report record rates of acute malnutrition, especially among children and older people," the organizations said in a joint statement reported by Al Jazeera.
"Diseases such as acute watery diarrhea are spreading, markets are empty, rubbish is mounting, and adults are collapsing on the streets due to hunger and dehydration."
"Distributions in Gaza average just 28 trucks a day, far from enough for over two million people, many of whom have gone weeks without assistances," they said. "The UN-led humanitarian system has not failed, it has been prevented from functioning."
Calls for Firm Action
The NGOs also called for governments to act without delay.
"It is time to take decisive action: demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire; lift all bureaucratic and administrative restrictions; open all land crossings; ensure access to everyone in all of Gaza; reject military-controlled distribution models; restore a principled, UN-led humanitarian response and continue to fund principled and impartial humanitarian organisations," they said.
"States must pursue concrete measures to end the siege, such as halting the transfer of weapons and ammunition."
"Piecemeal arrangements and symbolic gestures, like airdrops or flawed aid deals, serve as a smokescreen for inaction," the statement read.
"They cannot replace states’ legal and moral obligations to protect Palestinian civilians and ensure meaningful access at scale. States can and must save lives before there are none left to save."
According to Gaza’s health authority, at least 15 Palestinians died from starvation on Tuesday alone, bringing the total number of starvation-related deaths to 101, including 80 children.
Since October 2023, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has killed over 59,100 Palestinians, mostly women and children, while devastating the enclave’s infrastructure, collapsing its healthcare system, and causing widespread food shortages.
In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Israel is also facing genocide proceedings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its war in Gaza.
