TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The world football organization, FIFA, has opened disciplinary proceedings against the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and several Argentine players for alleged violations during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the world governing body announced on Wednesday, July 29.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee opened disciplinary proceedings against the AFA following a number of incidents involving Argentina's national team in matches at the tournament, as quoted from Antara, citing Xinhua.

According to FIFA, the alleged violations include discriminatory chants and gestures by fans, late kick-offs, non-compliance with match protocols and security measures, the display of inappropriate messages by teams and spectators, and the throwing of objects from the stands.

FIFA stated that the AFA could face charges related to non-sporting acts, team violations, discrimination and racist abuse, and public order and security at matches.

Separate disciplinary proceedings have also been opened against Argentine players Leandro Paredes, Nahuel Molina, and Thiago Almada, as well as team official Roberto Ayala and Spanish player Gavi, regarding an incident that occurred after the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final on July 19. Following the match, several Argentine players and staff were involved in a confrontation with their Spanish opponents.

According to a report by the FIFA-appointed Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor, Molina faces two counts of assault: one for actual assault and one for attempted assault. Meanwhile, Paredes faces three counts of assault and Ayala one count of assault.

Disciplinary proceedings have also been opened against Molina, Almada, and Gavi for alleged unsportsmanlike conduct.

FIFA stated that all parties involved in the proceedings were given the opportunity to present their defense and responses before the FIFA Disciplinary Committee issued a decision.
