TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in Wulanggitang District, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, erupted again on Tuesday at 12:42 p.m. WITA (Central Indonesian Time), with an ash column observed approximately 300 meters above the summit.

In a report received in Kupang, NTT, on Tuesday, Bramantya Aji Putra Mahendra, an officer at the Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki Observation Post, stated that the ash column reached approximately 1,884 meters above sea level, or approximately 300 meters above the summit.

"The ash was gray in color, thick, and tilted west to northwest," he said.

The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 29.6 millimeters and a duration of approximately three minutes and 17 seconds.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki remains at Level III, or Alert, status.

Indonesia's Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has urged the public and tourists to avoid activities within a five-kilometer radius of the eruption center.

Furthermore, the public is asked to remain calm, follow local government directives, and refrain from easily believing information from unconfirmed sources.

PVMBG also reminds residents to be aware of the potential for rain-induced lava flooding in rivers that originate at the summit of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in the event of heavy rainfall, especially in the areas of Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Nurabelen, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, and Nawakote.

PVMBG urges residents affected by volcanic ashfall to wear masks or cover their noses and mouths to reduce the risk of respiratory problems.

The PVMBG has requested that the East Flores Regency Government continue to coordinate with the Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki Observation Post in Pululera Village, Wulanggitang District, and with the Geological Hazard Mitigation Agency (PVMBG) to obtain the latest information on the volcano's activity.

The PVMBG stated that it will continue to coordinate with the East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and the East Flores Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) to disseminate information and implement mitigation efforts regarding Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki's activity.
