TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The personnel of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police revealed the motive behind the bomb threat at the State Elementary School (SDN) Srengseng Sawah 15 in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The terror incident occurred on Monday morning, July 13, 2026.
The Director of General Crime Investigation at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, stated that the perpetrator claimed it was just a prank when sending the bomb threat message. "However, we do not believe it just like that," said Iman at his office in South Jakarta on Monday, July 13, 2026.
According to Iman, the investigators are continuing to investigate the actual motive behind the terror launched by the perpetrator at the school. "Including (looking into) the background of the perpetrator," Iman said.
The Head of Public Relations at Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said that the perpetrator has now been arrested and is currently being taken to the South Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters for further investigation, "By the investigators," Budi said, on Monday, July 13, 2026.
According to Budi, the perpetrator, MY, is a 34-year-old resident who lives not far from the school. Budi stated that the perpetrator is known to have sent a message containing a bomb threat to a teacher and school administrative staff.
"Students and teachers have been evacuated as a safety measure," said Budi.
The Chief of the Jagakarsa Police Sector, Commissioner Norma Dewi, had previously confirmed the alleged bombing terror. "Yes, there was a bomb threat," Norma said when confirmed by Tempo on Monday, July 13, 2026.
Earlier, allegations of a bomb threat at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 went viral on social media. The Instagram account @depok24jam uploaded a video clip showing the situation at the school after the terror threat.
In the narration of the upload, the bomb threat was suspected to have been sent via WhatsApp by an unknown person to the school authorities. The message, sent twice, contained a threat of bombs being placed in 11 locations within the school premises.
