TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto met with Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Destry Damayanti at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday afternoon, July 27, 2026, following the resignation of Perry Warjiyo as the central bank's governor.
Destry, who is temporarily filling the leadership vacancy at BI, arrived at the Palace accompanied by BI Deputy Governor Thomas Djiwandono, who is also Prabowo's nephew. The president also invited officials from the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) to attend the coordination meeting.
"It's an invitation to a coordination meeting," Destry told reporters after the meeting at the Palace on Monday.
Destry said BI would continue to focus on maintaining financial stability despite the leadership transition at the central bank. "Exchange rate stability remains our priority," she said.
Prabowo Yet to Name BI Governor Candidate
Prabowo has not yet decided on a permanent replacement for Perry Warjiyo.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the president only received Perry's resignation letter on Sunday, July 26, leaving no time for further discussions on a new BI governor candidate.
"It was only yesterday. So, the president has not even had a single day to immediately appoint a definitive candidate," Prasetyo said at the BI office on Monday, citing a statement from the Presidential Secretariat's Press, Media, and Information Bureau.
Under the law, the president must nominate a BI governor candidate, who will then require approval from the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Financial Affairs Committee.
DPR Awaits Presidential Nomination
The DPR's Financial Affairs Committee has not yet received instructions from the House's Deliberation Body (Bamus) to conduct a fit and proper test for a BI governor nominee.
Deputy Chairperson of the committee Dolfie Othniel said lawmakers are still waiting for the president to submit a candidate for the central bank's top position.
"According to the law, the president will propose the BI governor candidate to obtain approval from the DPR's Financial Affairs Committee," Dolfie said on Monday.
The leadership transition comes as BI faces the challenge of maintaining market confidence and policy credibility following Perry Warjiyo's departure.
