Prabowo Welcomes New Indonesia-Thailand Direct Flights to Boost Tourism

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the launch of new direct air routes connecting key cities in Indonesia and Thailand, highlighting expanded aviation connectivity as a vital driver for strengthening people-to-people ties and boosting regional tourism.

"In terms of connectivity, we welcome the opening of new direct flight routes from Jakarta to Bangkok and Denpasar to Phuket, which are expected to further strengthen people-to-people ties between the two countries," President Prabowo said in a joint press statement with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, August 3, 2026.

The expansion of air connectivity is supported by a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Indonesian carrier TransNusa.

Prime Minister Anutin noted that the new routes, particularly between Phuket and Bali, will focus on key tourism segments, including wellness tourism, cruise travel, and the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector.

Beyond aviation, private-sector cooperation was further strengthened through an MoU between Bio Axel and Pro Consilium to develop an organic waste processing project.

Prime Minister Anutin also commended the formal adoption of the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026–2030, which will serve as a foundation for future cross-border collaboration.

He emphasized that Thai businesses have strong confidence in Indonesia’s economic outlook and are eager to become long-term partners in growth across various industries, including sustainable fisheries, food processing, agriculture, energy, the halal economy, and digital services.
