TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Saudia Airlines plane received another bomb threat, causing it to make an emergency landing at Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Saturday morning. This is the second incident within a week.
"At 09:27 AM WIB (Indonesia Western Time) today, one flight was diverted to Kualanamu International Airport," said PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi's Acting Director of Operations and Service, Nugroho, in a written statement in Medan on Saturday.
He continued, the flight with the number SV5688, serving the Jeddah-Surabaya route, had to divert its landing as a technical measure to ensure flight safety.
The National Police's Densus 88 Antiterror Special Detachment investigates the second bomb threat against the Saudia Airlines plane. "The incident is currently being investigated by Densus 88," said Densus 88 Antiterror Police Spokesperson AKBP Mayndra Eka Wardhana to journalists in Jakarta on Saturday.
He explained that the bomb threat was initially received by AirNav Indonesia in Jakarta and then forwarded to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. "Then, ATC Kuala Lumpur informed the pilot. The pilot then requested to land at Kualanamu for an aircraft screening," he explained.
The entire process of handling the aircraft and passengers has been carried out properly in accordance with applicable procedures.
Prior to this, the Saudi Airlines SV-5726 flight from Jeddah to Jakarta was forced to make an emergency landing at Kualanamu Airport in Deli Serdang due to a bomb threat on Tuesday, June 17, at 10:44 AM WIB.
The aircraft with registration number HZ-AK32 carrying 442 pilgrims from Depok, West Java, was declared safe after the North Sumatra Regional Police's explosive ordnance disposal team conducted a sweep.
"However, the Kualanamu Airport community ensures that the airport's operations remain normal and conducive," Nugroho emphasized.
He also explained that the emergency operation center at Kualanamu International Airport has been activated, involving airport security committee members.
This is done to ensure that emergency handling procedures run optimally and in accordance with regulations.
The Saudi Airlines flight used an Airbus A330 aircraft carrying 376 passengers bound for Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, East Java.
"Currently, all passengers and flight crews have undergone terminal inspections and declared clear," Nugroho clarified.
He also stated that Kualanamu International Airport continues to serve all flights based on the applicable schedule.
"According to the schedule, ensuring convenience and safety for all airport users," Nugroho said.
