Indonesia continues to strengthen research and innovation technology by offering nine research collaboration platforms to ASEAN countries. This was conveyed by the Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Laksana Tri Handoko, after meeting with ministers in the field of science, technology, and innovation from Southeast Asia during the 87th ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation (COSTI) event held in Jakarta on June 16-20, 2025.

"We don't just want to hold events. So we have to bring something that has a long-term impact and can enhance Indonesia's positioning globally, including providing opportunities for our researchers to collaborate more widely," said Handoko at the BRIN B.J. Habibie Building, Jakarta, on Friday, June 20, 2025.

2. CSIS: Indonesia Could Lead in Southeast Asia's Green Cement Industry

Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) stated that Indonesia has the potential to become a leading producer of green cement in Southeast Asia. "Because Indonesia is one of the largest cement-producing countries in the region," said Research Associate, Climate Policy Research CSIS, Via Azlia Widiyadi in a discussion session at the Pakarti Center, Friday, June 20, 2025.

Via revealed that the cement industry is one of Indonesia's three sectors contributing to carbon emissions. In addition to cement, CSIS also mentioned the iron and steel industry and fertilizers. "When calculated, these three industries account for almost 82 percent of the industrial sector emissions in Indonesia."

3. Satellite Images Show USS Nimitz Moving from South China Sea to Persian Gulf

Amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, satellite images show that all U.S. Navy warships have left their main port in Bahrain.

This move is part of Washington's preparation to face the possibility of an attack on Iran, as reported by Newsweek on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, citing Anadolu.

According to open-source intelligence analysis, including Ian Ellis on the X platform, currently, there is at least one coastal combat ship, four mine countermeasure ships, and the special operations support ship M/V Ocean Trader operating within the area of responsibility of the U.S. Central Command.
