TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - One of Singapore’s familiar shopping destinations is set for a major makeover. Marina Square Shopping Mall will close its doors next year as the landmark Marina Centre complex makes room for new homes, a hotel, offices and a broader mix of lifestyle spaces.
The mall will close on March 31, 2027, as part of a redevelopment of the 9.2-hectare Marina Square complex, Singapore Land Group (SingLand) said on Tuesday, September 1, according to CNA. The redevelopment is expected to be completed by 2031.
The three existing hotels in the complex — Pan Pacific Singapore, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay and Mandarin Oriental Singapore — will remain open throughout the construction period.
Three new towers will be integrated with the existing hotels, while the four-storey Marina Square mall will undergo a major overhaul.
New Luxury Homes, Hotel and Offices
The redevelopment will transform Marina Square into a mixed-use destination combining residences, hotels, offices, retail, sports and wellness facilities, as well as arts and cultural spaces.
A 49-storey residential tower, rising more than 190 meters, will contain 204 luxury homes ranging from three- to five-bedroom apartments and penthouses.
Another 19-storey mixed-use tower will feature a 304-room hotel and about 13,000 square meters of premium Grade A office space. The hotel will occupy the fourth to 10th floors, while the offices will be located from the 12th to 19th floors.
A 24-storey serviced apartment tower will also be built, offering 260 units with views toward Marina Bay and Bay East Garden.
SingLand Chief Executive Jonathan Eu described the project as an opportunity to reshape Marina Square into a more connected destination.
“By adding residences, serviced apartments and workplaces alongside the existing hotels — and repositioning the mall around experience-led retail, sports, wellness and community — we are creating a new ecosystem where people can live, work, stay and connect,” he said.
Marina Square Mall to Get a New Look
The mall itself will undergo an asset enhancement initiative covering more than 76,000 square meters of gross floor area.
Its new retail mix is expected to place greater emphasis on food and beverage, sports, wellness and lifestyle concepts, alongside landscaped and pet-friendly areas.
The revamped mall will also serve as a link between the surrounding hotels, offices, residences, serviced apartments and public spaces.
Pedestrian connections will be improved through a sheltered walkway and an elevated botanical loop linking the development with One Raffles Link, Millenia Walk, Suntec City and the upcoming NS Square.
More Public Spaces Planned
The redevelopment will add a 6,500-square-meter public park above Stamford Canal, with greenery, play areas and spaces for events.
More than 4,000 square meters of privately owned public space will connect directly to NS Square.
Other planned public spaces include The Cube, a 700-square-meter event venue along Raffles Boulevard, and The Oculus, a 300-square-meter central atrium within the mall.
Marina Centre was completed in 1986 and became the first district developed within the wider Marina Bay area, combining offices, hotels and retail.
With the mall's closure still months away, SingLand said it will continue to organise events and activities to support shopper traffic and retail sales.
The developer also said it is working with stakeholders to minimise disruption and maintain access to the three existing hotels during construction.
