TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chinese tech giant Vivo is embarking on a new phase to establish a smartphone production center in India. The company had previously planned to make India a manufacturing base but faced delays due to investment approval issues at the end of 2024.
Finally, last Thursday, Vivo's desire to enter the manufacturing field in India was realized. The Indian government has approved a manufacturing joint venture between Vivo and local producer Dixon Technologies.
This agreement will involve the acquisition of specific manufacturing assets from Vivo and will produce a portion of smartphone orders from India.
"Local partnerships such as the Dixon-Vivo venture offer Chinese brands a more stable operating model, while aligning with India’s push for greater local participation in electronics manufacturing," said Tarun Pathak, the Research Director at Counterpoint Research, as reported by TechCrunch on Monday, July 13, 2026.
Vivo's production expansion in India is not without reason. In this country, the technology giant Apple had also begun cooperation long before Vivo's arrival, making India one of the countries with the most extensive global mobile manufacturing centers.
Meanwhile, Apple's manufacturing expansion in India is largely driven by suppliers such as Foxconn and Tata.
