What to Know About Microsoft's New AI Model for Cybersecurity

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tech giant Microsoft has launched its first dedicated artificial intelligence (AI) model for cybersecurity, named MAI-Cyber-1-Flash. The system is claimed to be able to detect, analyze, and respond to cyber threats independently and in real-time to bolster digital defense in the Microsoft ecosystem.

This model is specifically built to run on Microsoft's framework that focuses on identifying and fixing software vulnerabilities. Microsoft has optimized this model to discover security loopholes within complex code bases.

Microsoft claims that MAI-Cyber-1-Flash is far more powerful and cost-efficient compared to its competitor models. "We have MAI-1 Cyber Flash binded [sic] with GPT 5.4 inside of the MDASH harness — which beats out Gemini, GPT 5.5 Cyber, GPT 5.6 Sol, and Mythos 5 on Cyber Gym," said Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of DeepMind who is now CEO of Microsoft AI, as quoted from TechCrunch report on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

"We are very very excited to announce our results," Mustafa added.

The tech giant also becomes aware of the rampant use of AI technology by hackers to carry out cyber attacks, which has become a crucial concern recently. Microsoft's Vice President of Security, Hayete Gallot, describes their latest model as a defense platform to counter hacking with AI systems in the future.

This new Microsoft security device is scheduled to be available in a preview version starting on November 3, 2026. The presence of MAI-Cyber-1-Flash adds to the competition in the AI-based cyber security market.

Previously, Anthropic had launched the Mythos security platform to a number of limited partner organizations through the Glasswing program. Additionally, OpenAI has also released its cyber security solution in May through a program called Daybreak.
