TEMPO.CO, East Lombok - A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team has located a 27-year-old female Brazilian tourist, JDSP, who was reported to have fallen into Lake Segara Anak near the Cemara Nunggal point on Mount Rinjani.
Muhamad Hariyadi, head of the Mataram SAR Office, said that the climber was found on Monday, June 23, at 7:05 AM local time, approximately 500 meters from where she initially fell. "The joint SAR team successfully located a survivor through thermal drone visualization," he confirmed.
Based on drone observations, she was motionless. The joint SAR team is currently undertaking strenuous efforts to evacuate JDSP, who fell hundreds of meters down a cliff. This tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning, June 21, 2025, while the tourist was climbing toward the summit of Mount Rinjani.
"We are hindered by the extreme terrain and fog around the incident location," Hariyadi added.
I Kadek Agus Ariawan, the field coordinator from the Mataram SAR Office, explained that the climber's fall location has a steep cliff contour, hundreds of meters deep, making it difficult to access.
"She fell around Cemara Nunggal, which is a ravine with very extreme terrain. Currently, we are still focused on the search and evacuation process," Kadek Agus added.
He emphasized that despite the challenging weather and extremely steep terrain, all team members are tirelessly making their best efforts to reach the climber's location.
This SAR operation involves various agencies and groups, including the Mataram SAR Office, Rinjani Mountain National Park Office (BTNGR), TNI (Indonesian Military), Polri (National Police), East Lombok Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), East Lombok SAR Unit, EMHC, Damkar (Fire and Rescue Agency), Rinjani volunteers, porters, and other related elements.
