Flights to Indonesia Affected by Iran-Israel Conflict

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel has impacted several flights to and from Indonesia.

Lukman F. Laisa, Director General of Air Transportation at Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation, said several airlines have adjusted their flight routes following the issuance of a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) by aviation authorities in the affected regions.

"In general, the flight schedules have not changed. However, there is also a Doha-CGK route flight canceled by GIA," Lukman said in an official statement on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. GIA refers to Garuda Indonesia.

Lukman added that Garuda Indonesia will continue to evaluate flight routes to and from the Middle East while the war persists. He noted that airspace closures have occurred in several Flight Information Regions (FIR), including FIR Cairo, FIR Tel Aviv, FIR Baghdad, FIR Syria, FIR Tehran, FIR Bahrain, and FIR Doha.

These closures were outlined in official NOTAMs, causing some international flights to be diverted or forced to return to their departure airports. "In order to maintain flight safety and security," Lukman said.

He stated that airspace in Qatar and Bahrain has since reopened, but other FIRs such as Cairo, Tel Aviv, Baghdad, Syria, and Tehran remain restricted or closed to civil aviation. Lukman urged the public to stay calm and rely on official information from airlines and aviation authorities. "Flight safety and security remain our top priority," he added.

Meanwhile, the conflict between Iran and Israel continues to intensify. On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the army to launch a major assault on Tehran, the Iranian capital.

According to Anadolu, Katz accused Iran of violating the ceasefire brokered just hours earlier by U.S. President Donald Trump.

"I instructed the IDF (army), in coordination with the Prime Minister, to continue the intense strike activity in Tehran to neutralize regime targets and terrorist infrastructure in Tehran, following yesterday's operation," Katz said in a statement quoted by the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.

Katz said the attack was launched "in light of the absolute violation of the ceasefire declared by the U.S. President by Iran and the missile launch to Israel."
