TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture aims to reach 71,744 educational units or schools with its revitalization program by 2026. The allocated budget for this program reaches Rp14 trillion.

The Minister of Education and Culture, Abdul Mu'ti, stated that the objective to improve schools is a direct directive from President Prabowo Subianto to expedite the equalization of education quality.

"It is planned to add around 60,000 educational units to the target. The President has mentioned it several times, so by 2026, the revitalization program can target 71,744 educational units," said Mu'ti, quoted from the Indonesian Government's Communications Bureau on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

According to Mu'ti, the implementation of the 2026 revitalization program has already begun. Up to now, the government has completed thousands of partnerships with educational units and has started disbursing assistance totaling Rp2.6 trillion.

"We have now started implementing it for 2026; agreements with 4,838 educational units have been finalized, and disbursements have been made to 3,408 educational units," stated Mu'ti.

Furthermore, Mu'ti mentioned that several revitalization projects in various areas have entered the initial stage of development. Nonetheless, he emphasized that the government has set priorities in the implementation of the 2026 revitalization program. Main focus is given to schools that have suffered damage as a result of disasters.

"In 2026, revitalization is prioritized for schools that have been damaged as a result of disasters, including those in Sumatra and other regions in Indonesia," he said.

Moreover, the government also prioritizes schools in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions, as well as schools with severe damage that are not located in disaster areas or 3T regions.

"Schools in 3T regions and those with significant damage, even if not in disaster or 3T areas, are prioritized for the 2026 revitalization program," explained Mu'ti.
