Athletic Bilbao Crush Atletico Madrid for First Defeat of La Liga Season

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Athletic Bilbao secured a commanding 3-0 victory while hosting Atletico Madrid at San Mames Stadium on Saturday night, Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

The hosts' three goals were scored in the second half by Nico Williams, Robert Navarro, and Oihan Sancet.

With this second consecutive win, Bilbao moved up to eighth place with six points.

Meanwhile, Atletico remained in sixth place with seven points from four matches, according to the La Liga website as cited by Antara.

The teams were evenly matched in the first half, with no goals scored before the break.

Bilbao applied immediate pressure after the restart. Just one minute into the second half, Nico Williams broke the deadlock with a header inside the penalty area, putting the hosts 1-0 ahead.

Before Atletico could recover from that setback, Robert Navarro found the net against Diego Simeone's side just two minutes later.

The move began with a quick counter-attack; Inaki Williams passed the ball to Navarro, who fired a shot into the bottom-left corner of the Atletico goal.

Trailing by two goals, Atletico attempted to narrow the deficit, but Los Colchoneros' efforts proved unsuccessful.

Instead, Bilbao added a third goal in stoppage time through Oihan Sancet, sealing a 3-0 victory.

This marked Atletico's first defeat of the season, following two wins and a draw in their opening three league matches.
