TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The suspension of operations at Indonesia's Soekarno-Hatta Airport has affected 209 flights and 22,798 passengers. Lukman F. Laisa, Director General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation, stated that the Makassar (UPG) route saw the highest number of affected domestic flight movements, totaling 16 aircraft movements. Meanwhile, Singapore (SIN) was the primary international route affected, with a total of 11 aircraft movements.
Details regarding the handling of international flight statuses include 16 cancellations, 7 delays, and 5 rescheduled flights across routes to Singapore (SIN), Hong Kong (HKG), Sydney (SYD), Seoul/Incheon (ICN), Doha (DOH), Amsterdam (AMS), and Kuala Lumpur (KUL).
Regarding domestic flights, there were 4 cancellations and 1 flight diversion affecting routes to Lampung (TKG), Denpasar (DPS), and Surabaya (SUB).
Based on NOTAM Number A3341/26, the airport was temporarily closed from 01:30 to 09:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time). This closure was an extension of the previous timeframe, which had originally been set until 05:30 WIB.
"The latest paper test results from the Soekarno-Hatta Class I Meteorology Station, conducted between 06:05 and 06:35 WIB, confirmed indications of volcanic ash dispersion in the Soekarno-Hatta Airport area," Lukman said in a written statement.
Lukman stated that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation would continue to monitor the situation alongside flight operators, airport management, air navigation services, the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency), and other relevant parties, providing updates should significant changes occur. He urged the public and prospective passengers traveling through Soekarno-Hatta Airport to monitor the latest information from airlines and advised them to stay informed about the situation and avoid traveling to the airport prematurely.

According to Lukman, flight operations will continue to be managed dynamically based on evolving conditions on the ground. "Safety remains the top priority in every operational decision," he said.
Mount Anak Krakatau has been on "Alert" status since July 2, 2026. Located in the Sunda Strait, the volcano experienced a continuous eruption on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The eruption began at 11:07 PM on Friday and lasted until 4:40 AM WIB.
Visual reports of the Mount Anak Krakatau eruption were interpreted as a lava fountaining phenomenon. Berton Panjaitan, Acting Head of the BNPB's Center for Disaster Data, Information, and Communication, stated that the fire was clearly visible—though partially obscured by fog (rated at levels 0–III)—while no crater smoke was observed. Surveillance cameras in the area ceased operations after being struck by ejected volcanic material.
"The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), under the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, recommends that the public, visitors, tourists, and hikers refrain from approaching Mount Anak Krakatau or engaging in activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the active crater," Berton said last Saturday.
