KAI: Mount Anak Krakatau Eruption Has No Impact on Bandung Train Operations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area (Daop) 2 Bandung has confirmed that the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in Indonesia has not impacted train operations or passenger services at stations within the Daop 2 Bandung region.

Kuswardojo, the Public Relations Manager for KAI Daop 2 Bandung, stated on Sunday that train operations in the area are currently running normally, with no disruptions caused by the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.

However, the company continues to monitor the volcano's activity and coordinate with relevant agencies—including the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency)—to ensure the safety of train travel and passengers.

"We confirm that the current eruption activity of Mount Anak Krakatau has no impact on train operations or passenger services at stations within the Daop 2 Bandung region," he said.

The public, particularly train passengers, need not worry, as KAI has established procedures and monitoring systems to anticipate potential natural disruptions that could affect travel safety.

Safety is KAI's top priority; therefore, if conditions arise that could endanger travel, KAI will not take risks and will immediately halt train operations.

For instance, in the event of natural disturbances such as earthquakes, train travel is immediately suspended to allow personnel to inspect the tracks.

This temporary suspension is a mitigation measure to ensure safe travel; operations resume only after inspections confirm that the tracks, rolling stock, and infrastructure are safe and unaffected by the disturbance.

"The public need not worry, as every operational decision by KAI prioritizes safety. We ask the public to obtain information regarding train travel through KAI's official channels and to avoid trusting unverified information," he said.

The company will continue to monitor Mount Anak Krakatau's activity and environmental conditions that could affect train travel; should any developments impact operations, official information will be promptly released to the public.

"KAI is always prepared to take well-coordinated measures prioritizing safety whenever there is a potential disruption threatening the safety of train travel," he said.
