Iran Responds to US War Proposal Via Pakistani Mediator

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran has sent a response to the latest United States (US) proposal regarding efforts to end the war through Pakistani mediator on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

The Iranian government news agency IRNA reported that Iran's response has been conveyed to the Pakistani mediator. "At this stage, the negotiations will focus on ending the war in the region," IRNA reported as cited by Anadolu.

IRNA mentioned that the initial stage of the proposal would focus on ceasing hostilities. Tehran's response also reportedly highlighted the importance of maintaining maritime security in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

A Pakistani diplomatic source to Al Jazeera Arabic stated that Iran's response has been forwarded to the US.

Previously, Washington reportedly presented a 14-point proposal to Iran this week. The proposal requested Iran not to develop nuclear weapons and to halt all uranium enrichment for at least 12 years.

Iran was also asked to surrender about 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent. In return, the US was said to lift sanctions gradually, open access to Iran's billions of dollars in frozen assets, and stop the sea blockade on Iranian ports.

Al Jazeera's reporter in Islamabad, Kamal Hyder, stated that Pakistan had confirmed receiving Iran's response. He mentioned a strong push for a swift agreement as the prolonged blockade in the Strait of Hormuz is starting to have a significant impact on the global economy, including Pakistan.

According to him, fuel prices in Pakistan have surged sharply due to the tension. Hyder added that Pakistan's good relations with Iran and its proximity to President Donald Trump's administration offer the opportunity for diplomatic breakthroughs in the coming days.
