Pep Guardiola Hopes West Ham Can Aid City's EPL Title Push

4 hours ago 6

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pep Guardiola called on West Ham United to help keep the Premier League title race alive after Manchester City secured a 3-0 victory over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Guardiola ended his post-match press conference with a playful rallying cry, “Come on you Irons,” expressing support for West Ham ahead of their crucial clash against league leaders Arsenal.

City kept their title hopes alive through goals from Jérémy Doku, Erling Haaland, and Omar Marmoush. The win moved City to within two points of Arsenal in the standings.

With Arsenal still set to face West Ham, Guardiola hopes the London side can take points off the league leaders and reopen City’s path to another Premier League title.

As he left the press conference room, the Spanish manager crossed his arms in imitation of West Ham supporters’ signature gesture while repeating, “Come on you Irons.”

Guardiola acknowledged the difficulty of this season’s title race, praising Arsenal’s consistency throughout the campaign.

We are fighting with a team in the final of the Champions League without losing a game and have been top of the league almost all season,” Guardiola said, as quoted by ESPN.

Despite trailing Arsenal, Guardiola insisted City have not given up on defending their crown.

It's not in our hands now so it depends on them dropping points. I love it. I love to be here [in the title race] again,” he said.

After beating Brentford, City still have league matches remaining against Crystal Palace, AFC Bournemouth, and Aston Villa. Arsenal, meanwhile, must still face West Ham, Burnley, and Crystal Palace.

Guardiola said City’s remaining schedule would be especially demanding with the club also preparing for the FA Cup Final.

All we can do is Wednesday [against Palace] win again, play the final of the FA CUp and go to Bournemouth — I'd say that is not the best one to go — and Aston Villa so the calendar is demanding,” Guardiola said.

“There are only two weeks left in the season, and everything will soon be decided.”
