Ex-UGM Student Council President Finds Tracking Device Under His Car

2 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Former Student Executive Board (BEM) Chair of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Tiyo Ardianto, was allegedly being followed by an unknown person through a tracking device. Tiyo claimed that a tracking device called PBX Finder was found under the chassis of the car he was riding.

The incident came to light shortly after Tiyo participated in a protest with students and civil movements in Gejayan, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, on Saturday, June 13, 2026. "I just realized there was an important and urgent notification, that a tracking device called PBX Finder was found moving with me," he said in the caption of his Instagram post.

Consequently, Tiyo inspected the car. One tracking device was found under the car. He said the car belonged to his brother, which he borrowed because he felt unsafe in his recent travels.

"I don't know who installed the tracking device," said the undergraduate philosophy student at UGM. Tiyo then informed several of his closest associates about the incident. They advised him to soak the tracking device in water.

Tiyo said the suspicion of being tracked using a tracking device by an unknown person is unusual. He pointed out the oppressive ways of the ruling regime, which often terrorizes people who criticize government policies.

Later, Tiyo received news from his fellow members of the UGM BEM who were also disturbed by messages from an unknown sender. Tiyo said there have been dozens of messages received by his friends from the same number since June 13. "It hasn't been counted how many, but probably around 30," he said.

He regretted the methods of terror and intimidation used to silence vocal and critical voices in society. Whereas, Tiyo said, civil society criticism is aimed at nation improvement.

He continued, the criticism is based on sincere love for the homeland. However, he said that concern is met with threats and danger.

He analogized criticism as a medicine for the government, which is currently afflicted by illnesses due to policies that are not pro-people. "How dangerous it is to be an Indonesian who loves his country. We give medicine for its ailments, but it tries to poison us," he said.
