TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A video with claims of war between Indonesia and Israel circulated on Facebook [archive] on May 10, 2026. The video shows Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto inspecting troops, a row of warships, and a parade of combat vehicles.
The video's narrator compares the two countries' military strengths. Indonesia is said to be superior in terms of personnel and population, while Israel is claimed to lead in sophisticated artificial intelligence and military technology.
However, does the recording really prove that the war between Indonesia and Israel occurred?
FACT CHECK
Tempo verified the content by conducting a reverse image search and monitoring credible media outlets. The results revealed that the 29-second video was a compilation of footage taken out of context from various events. To date, Indonesia has never deployed armed forces to war against Israel.
1st Clip
The video footage actually captures the moment of the reserve component determination in 2023. At that time, President Prabowo inspected troops using an open vehicle. This footage was broadcast live on Prabowo Subianto's YouTube channel on August 11, 2023.
2nd Clip
The warship in the footage is the Indonesian Navy's ship (KRI) I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332. An identical image appears at the 1:07 mark in a post by the Update Militer YouTube channel on February 12, 2025.
The KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 is the second ship in the SIGMA (Ship Integrated Geometrical Modularity Approach) project. A Type 10514 guided missile destroyer, it is the result of a technology transfer between PT PAL Indonesia and the Dutch company Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS).
Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu inaugurated the ship at the Semarang dock of PT PAL Surabaya on October 30, 2017.
3rd Clip
This video clip shows troops participating in the 2023 Reserve Component (Komcad) designation ceremony. An identical visual was previously broadcast on the Indonesian Ministry of Defense (Kemhan RI) YouTube channel on May 22, 2024.
The Director General of Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tri Tharyat, emphasized Indonesia's commitment to supporting global stability and strengthening multiculturalism through active participation in UN peacekeeping missions.
"Indonesia has sent 2,700 peacekeeping personnel in eight UN missions to various parts of the world," said Tri Tharyat at the 75th anniversary of Indonesia's membership in the United Nations (UN) at Atma Jaya University, Jakarta, Friday, October 24, 2025.
The eight missions cover the Congo, Lebanon, Central Africa, South Sudan, and Western Sahara. "As the fifth-largest contributor to UN peacekeeping forces worldwide, Indonesia is committed to playing a more active role in creating a peaceful, just, and sustainable world," said Tri Tharyat.
