'Ghost in the Cell' Released in Thailand with Thai Dubbing

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian comedy horror film Ghost in the Cell has been showing in Thailand with a Thai dub since May 7, 2026, as part of an international distribution strategy to expand audience reach in Southeast Asia.

Come and See Pictures producer Tia Hasibuan said dubbing was used to adapt to the country’s film market, where local-language films are more popular.

"It just so happens that Thailand and Cambodia seem to be used to it. Many of their films are dubbed into their own languages," said Tia Hasibuan in Jakarta on Saturday, as quoted by ANTARA.

She explained that the dubbing process was entirely handled by local distributors in Thailand. This step is considered effective in increasing audience acceptance and expanding access to Indonesian films in the international market.

"However, not all countries will be dubbed," said Tia.

According to Tia, film distributors use different strategies in countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. In these countries, the film is screened with the original Indonesian audio and additional subtitles.

The film Ghost in the Cell previously recorded 3.2 million viewers in Indonesian cinemas. This achievement is important capital for the production house to expand distribution to the global market. Come and See Pictures is targeting a release of the film in 86 countries by the end of 2026.

Besides Thailand, the film is also scheduled to be released in Taiwan next June.

This international distribution is part of an effort to increase the presence of Indonesian films in the global market. It also introduces the works of national filmmakers and artists to a global audience. This approach is tailored to the characteristics of audiences in each country.
