Indonesia Seeking to Double Digital Tax Revenue to Rp24 Trillion

5 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia, through its Directorate General of Taxes, is seeking to double digital tax revenue from Rp16 trillion to Rp24 trillion annually. This came following the implementation of the Article 22 Income Tax (PPh 22) collection through the marketplace.

Tax DG Bimo Wijayanto said the target is based on projections of increased taxpayer compliance and tax system improvements.

"We hope to at least double [the tax revenue]," Bimo said after a press conference at the Directorate General of Taxes Headquarters in South Jakarta on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

According to Bimo, in the last five years, tax revenue from the digital trade sector has been in the range of Rp8 trillion to Rp12 trillion per year.

The government hopes that PPh 22 collection by marketplaces will improve taxpayer compliance and, subsequently, state revenue.

This projection, Bimo said, has taken into account compliance testing results, tax system improvements, and inputs from business actors, especially MSMEs and marketplace operators.

In addition to increasing revenue, the new mechanism is expected to improve tax data accuracy through the Coretax system.

The Indonesian government has also begun resolving the disruptions at the Coretax system, including the case management feature that had experienced delays, which were resolved through a series of fixes carried out on June 26-28, 2026. The system is currently up and running.

According to Bimo, the Tax DG continues to update and improve the Coretax system, which will be tested by Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa next week before being presented to the public.

Bimo said his side is also improving the efficiency of the Coretax algorithm. The development of source code, which was previously done by vendors, is now being handled internally to make system improvements faster and more tailored. The Tax DG also works to simplify the Coretax user interface to make it easier to use.
