TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesia welcomes reports of a peace agreement between Iran and the US, while expressing hopes that deal will spark de-escalation of conflict in the region.

"[This is] a positive development towards peaceful settlement of conflict and advancing peace, security, and stability in the region," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs writes on X on Monday, June 15, 2026, as quoted from Antara.

Indonesia appreciates the efforts of all parties and mediators who have contributed constructively to facilitating dialogue and encouraging the peaceful resolution of differences, the statement read.

Indonesia urges all parties to the conflict to continue to "engage constructively in dialogue in order to sustain the momentum towards de-escalation."

"Indonesia calls on all parties to continue exercising restraint, uphold their commitments," it adds.

The ministry says Indonesia continues to encourage the immediate implementation of the peace agreement between the US and Iran.

Indonesia also affirms its readiness to support all efforts aimed at advancing peace, security, and stability in the region, in accordance with international law and the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.

US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that a deal with Iran had been finalized and authorized the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the US naval blockade.

"The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

The Iranian government swiftly confirmed the breakthrough. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced in a live television broadcast that the official signing of the memorandum of understanding will take place in Switzerland on Friday, June 19.

Gharibabadi further confirmed that the terms of the US-Iran peace deal included a total cessation of military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon, effective as of Monday night.
