What Did TNI HQ Say About Appeal Ruling in Andrie Yunus Case?

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Headquarters respects the decision of the Jakarta High Military Court II-06 of Appeals which accepts the appeal verdict of the 4 defendants in the case of the acid attack against Andrie Yunus.

The panel of judges annulled the dismissal penalty and reduced the prison sentence for defendants I and II, Sergeant Edi Sudarko and First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi Cahyono, respectively. "The TNI respects and appreciates the independence and authority of the judges in deciding a case," said the Head of the TNI Information Center Major General Muhammad Nas in a brief message on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

Sergeant Edi's sentence was reduced to two years and six months in prison, a reduction from the previous three-year prison sentence and dismissal. Lieutenant Budhi's sentence was also reduced to two years in prison, from the original two years and six months along with dismissal.

Meanwhile, the sentence against defendant III, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, and defendant IV, First Lieutenant Sami Lakka, remains unchanged. Captain Nandala Dwi was sentenced to two years in prison, and Lieutenant Sami was sentenced to one year and six months.

Muhammad Nas stated that all of these decisions are fully within the authority of the panel of judges of the Jakarta High Military Court II-06. "Regarding the mentioned High Military Court decision, it is within the jurisdiction of the military justice system which institutionally is under the Supreme Court," he said.

The appeal verdict with case number 56-K/PMT-II/BDG/AL/VI/2026 was issued on August 20, 2026. In its decision, the panel of judges amended part of the verdict for the defendants. “Amending the Jakarta High Military Court II-08 Decision Number 70-K/PM II-08/AL/IV/2026 dated June 10, 2026, against Defendant-1 and Defendant-2 only in its penalty,” as quoted from the Case Tracking System (SIPP) of the Jakarta Military Court II-06 on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Since the day the verdict was read on June 10, 2026, four members of the Strategic Intelligence Agency of TNI who poured acid on Andrie Yunus have filed an appeal.

The panel of judges at that time stated that the four defendants were proven to have violated Article 467 paragraph (1) in conjunction with paragraph (2) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code as the subsidiary charge.
