TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel TNI Teddy Indra Wijaya explained the reasons for the increase in the prices of non-subsidized fuel. PT Pertamina Patra Niaga raised the prices of Pertamax and Pertamax Green fuel on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
The price of Pertamax RON 92, which was originally sold at Rp12,300 per liter, soared to Rp16,250 per liter. Meanwhile, Pertamax Green 95 increased from Rp12,900 per liter to Rp17,000 per liter. This increase occurred outside of Pertamina's routine schedule of announcing fuel price changes on the 1st of every month.
Teddy explained that Pertamax is non-subsidized fuel. "It means that the price of Pertamax must follow the world oil prices," said Teddy in a post on the @sekretariat.kabinet account on Friday, June 12, 2026.
Meanwhile, Teddy stated that there is no increase in the prices of subsidized fuel types such as Pertalite and Solar. Due to the increase in world oil prices following the United States' and Israel's conflict with Iran, the prices of subsidized fuel remain at Rp10,000 per liter for Pertalite and Rp6,800 per liter for Solar.
"The world oil prices have risen drastically since March, but the government has been holding back the increase for months," said Teddy.
As for the explanation regarding the increase in Pertamax prices, it came from the Presidential Palace through Teddy Indra Wijaya on Friday night around 19:00 local time, during student protests in the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout area, Jakarta. The mass action began in the afternoon. One of the government's demands was to lower the prices of necessities and fuel.
The day before, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the increase in non-subsidized fuel prices, including Pertamax, was based on careful calculations by both state-owned and private business actors.
Although the price of Pertamax has surged, Bahlil emphasized that the prices of subsidized fuel and LPG have not changed. "Meanwhile, the non-subsidized prices adapt to the existing market prices. Surely, these calculations will be done wisely by our business partners, both Pertamina and other private actors," said Bahlil at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday night, June 11, 2026.
Furthermore, Bahlil stated that the government is devising policy schemes to maintain people's purchasing power in response to the increase in non-subsidized fuel. "Therefore, to maintain people's purchasing power, especially for subsidized fuels, we will not increase the prices at all. Meanwhile, adjustments will be made for the others," said the Chairman of the Golkar Party.
