After West Kalimantan, Prabowo Heads to Central Kalimantan for Forest Fire Meeting

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto continued his working visit to Central Kalimantan, after previously inspecting the handling of forest and land fires in West Kalimantan. Based on a live broadcast through the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, Prabowo appeared at Tjilik Riwut Airport, Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, on Saturday afternoon, August 22, 2026.

At the Aju Air Task Force Post, Prabowo led a coordination meeting for handling forest and land fires in the Central Kalimantan region. Several state officials attended the meeting, including State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army General Maruli Simanjuntak, and Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo.

In addition, the meeting was also attended by the Central Kalimantan Governor Agustiar Sabran, Commander of the XXII/Tambun Bungai Regional Military Command Major General Zainul Arifin, and the Chief of the Central Kalimantan Regional Police Inspector General Iwan Kurniawan.

"After earlier visiting the post in West Kalimantan, here at the Aju Palangkaraya Post, in Central Kalimantan, several ministers, the Army Chief of Staff, the Deputy National Police Chief, the Governor, the Regional Military Commander, and the Chief of Police of Central Kalimantan have arrived," said Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya when opening the meeting.

On that occasion, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency and Firefighter (BPBPK) of Central Kalimantan Ahmad Toyib reported that from January 1 to August 22, 2026, there were 19,992 hotspots in the Central Kalimantan region.

During the same period, a total of 1,639 forest and land fire incidents were reported, with an area of 4,499.21 hectares already being handled. "This data is based on daily reports from the 14 regencies/cities in Central Kalimantan which we gather every day at the Central Operations Center of the Central Kalimantan Forest and Land Fire Task Force," said Ahmad Toyib.

Ahmad Toyib stated that 13 regencies/cities in Central Kalimantan have now declared a state of emergency alert for forest and land fire disasters. Meanwhile, based on satellite analysis by the Ministry of Forestry, the area of forest and land fires in Central Kalimantan has reached 7,634.46 hectares. This places the forest and land fires in Central Kalimantan at the ninth position nationally.

Prior to this, President Prabowo also led a coordination meeting for handling forest and land fires from the Air Task Force Post at Supadio Airport, Pontianak, West Kalimantan.

The coordination meeting in West Kalimantan was attended by, among others, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and the Head of the National Intelligence Agency Muhammad Herindra.

Prabowo briefly stated the reason for his presence in Kalimantan. The Head of State requested the latest report on the forest and land fire conditions. "I have come to see the actual local conditions. Now I ask who can give me a presentation on the situation," said Prabowo on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, as broadcasted through the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
