TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Film talents Jenna Ortega, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth are among the 529 new members invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Oscars voting body. The 2026 invitee class also includes 95 Oscar nominees, 21 Oscar winners, and three recipients of Scientific and Technical Awards.
In addition to the two Frankenstein stars and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice actress Ortega, other notable invitees include Julia Garner, Josh O’Connor, Simu Liu, and Bill Skarsgard.
While this year's class is slightly smaller than last year's 534 invitees, the composition of the group reveals more about the Academy's ongoing efforts to diversify its membership. The 2026 class is made up of 42 percent women, 56 percent members from underrepresented communities, and 53 percent individuals from countries outside the United States.
Following their induction, the Academy's overall membership will stand at 64 percent male and 75 percent white, a notable shift from 2015, when the organization was 75 percent male and 92 percent white, according to NBC News and Variety. International members now account for 22 percent of the Academy's membership.
If all 2026 invitees accept their invitations, the Academy will grow to 11,319 members, including 10,338 voting members. With this figure, the organization has nearly doubled since 2016, when it had roughly 6,000 members.
"We are delighted to invite this remarkable group of film artists and professionals from around the world to join the Academy," CEO Bill Kramer and president Lynette Howell Taylor said in a statement cited by The Hollywood Reporter. "Through their commitment to filmmaking, this year's exceptionally talented class has made significant contributions to our global movie industry."
The 99th Academy Awards is scheduled to be held on March 14, with Conan O'Brien returning as host for the third consecutive year.
