Govt Allocates Rp100.16 Trillion for Sumatra Disaster Recovery

6 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government has earmarked a budget of Rp100.16 trillion for post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction across Sumatra. Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated that the permanent recovery of the three affected provinces, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh, is targeted for completion within the next three years.

Tito, who also serves as Chief of the Task Force for Accelerating Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra, noted that the budget allocation had been agreed upon by both the government and the House of Representatives (DPR).

"The total budget we proposed has, alhamdulillah [thank God], been approved at the executive level, and we have reported it to the DPR Task Force led by Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. Alhamdulillah, it also received their backing, bringing the total to Rp100.166 trillion over three years," Tito said during a coordination meeting at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Monday, May 25, 2026.

The former National Police Chief detailed that the budget is broken down annually through 2028. The allocation for 2026 stands at Rp38.9 trillion, followed by Rp32.9 trillion in 2027, and Rp28.2 trillion in 2028. "The total is approximately Rp100.1 trillion. This is the rough breakdown, and it has been distributed among various ministries and agencies," Tito explained.

According to Tito, the largest portion of the budget is designated for infrastructure development under the Ministry of Public Works (PU). "It is a total of roughly Rp69 trillion over three years, with Rp22 trillion allocated for this year," he said.

Additionally, the government has set aside Rp7.4 trillion over two years for permanent housing development (huntap) through the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas. "For permanent housing, our target is to have it completed by 2027 at the latest," Tito said.

Tito added that the Ministry of Finance has already confirmed the readiness of the Rp38 trillion allocation for the 2026 fiscal year. Moving forward, each relevant ministry and agency has been instructed to submit their supporting documentation.

Tito emphasized that DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who chaired the coordination meeting, stressed that every ministry and agency must draft a project timeline to be submitted to the Task Force by early June. "Following that, we will conduct evaluations every two weeks," Tito said, adding that progress on the recovery efforts will be periodically reported to the DPR.
