TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi confirmed that the policy of reducing online motorcycle taxi (ojol) commissions to a maximum of 8 percent will take effect on July 1, 2026.
Dudy stated that President Prabowo Subianto had announced the policy on adjusting online motorcycle taxi commissions on May 1, 2026, as part of efforts to improve the welfare of online transportation drivers.
"Oh no (not a trial), it will be implemented immediately on July 1. We'll see what the reaction is," the Minister confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday.
He explained that the government had communicated the policy to all app providers and asked them to immediately prepare implementation steps so that the new regulations could be implemented on time.
According to Dudy, a meeting between app providers and the leadership of the House of Representatives (DPR) agreed that the maximum eight percent commission would officially begin on July 1.
The Ministry of Transportation, Dudy continued, fully supports the implementation of the policy by preparing all administrative and technical aspects to ensure its implementation is in accordance with government regulations.
He assessed that app providers have expressed their commitment to supporting government policies, as expressed in various meetings with the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Ministry of Transportation over the past few months.
Dudy confirmed that the Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan, has held several discussions with app providers and concluded that all parties are ready to implement the President's policy.
According to Dudy, the commission changes do not require new implementing regulations, as the provisions regarding the commission amount are already stipulated in Minister of Transportation Decree No. KP No. 1001 of 2022 concerning Guidelines for Calculating Motorcycle Service Fees for Public Use Through Apps.
He explained that the Ministry of Transportation will only revise the provisions regarding the maximum commission limit, from 20 percent to a maximum of eight percent, in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's policy.
"So, with the 8 percent commission, we will revise the original commission provision, which stated a maximum of 20 percent. That's 15 plus 5, right? We will revise it to a maximum of 8 percent," he explained.
In addition to revising commission amounts, the Ministry of Transportation will also update insurance provisions as part of the refinement of regulations under the ministry's authority.
Dudy emphasized that all changes only cover regulations previously regulated by the Ministry of Transportation, so adjustments are made in accordance with the President's directive issued on May 1st.
Although the revised regulations have not yet been issued, Dudy emphasized that applicator companies have expressed their readiness to support government policies after considering various dynamics to meet the expectations of online motorcycle taxi drivers, especially motorcycle drivers.
"The operators have expressed their commitment to their readiness, of course, taking into account the various dynamics they have considered," he said.
"They will be ready to support the President's expectations, as well as those of fellow online motorcycle taxi drivers, especially motorcycle drivers," the Minister of Transportation added.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 27 of 2026 to reduce the revenue cut taken by applicator companies from online motorcycle taxi drivers to eight percent.
"I'm saying here, I don't agree with 10 percent; it must be below 10 percent," said President Prabowo in his speech at the International Workers' Day commemoration at the National Monument in Jakarta on Friday (May 1).
The President emphasized that this policy was taken to defend the rights of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers who work hard every day and risk their lives on the roads. He argued that the current profit-sharing scheme still doesn't provide fairness to drivers.
