TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Japanese government has decided to increase the single-entry visa fee for foreign nationals fivefold, raising it to 15,000 yen (approximately US$90) from the previous 3,000 yen starting this July.
As reported by Antara, the decision, which marks the first fee adjustment since 1978 against a backdrop of persistent inflation and a depreciating yen, was announced by Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu during a press conference on Friday, June 19.
Under the newly revised structure, the fee for issuing a multiple-entry visa will similarly surge from 6,000 yen to 30,000 yen.
"We do not expect the move to have an immediate impact on inbound tourism," Motegi said as quoted from Xinhua.
