Prabowo: Forest Fires Contained in Several Areas

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia has mitigated the impacts of El Niño, including an increased potential for forest fires. He hopes these issues can be resolved within two weeks in several locations.

At the launch of the 100 GWp Solar Power Plant (PLTS) at the Java-Bali Cross-Sea Operation Monument, Jembrana Regency, Bali, on Tuesday, the President said the entire world is now facing the impact of El Nino, including in Indonesia in the form of a drier dry season.

"We are grateful. I have visited several locations and checked them myself. Alhamdulillah, all elements of the regional government, KL, ministries and institutions, TNI (military), Polri (police), BNPB (National Disaster Mitigation Agency), the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Forestry, are all working effectively," the President said, as quoted by ANTARA.

"Now I think it's starting to be resolved, mitigated, and in some places, I hope it can all be resolved within a week or two," Prabowo added.

He explained that the government has deployed equipment and personnel for both forest fire mitigation and control. This includes deploying dozens of helicopters and aircraft for aerial fire suppression (water bombing), as well as drilling wells and canal blocking for mitigation.

Thousands of personnel were deployed to handle and prevent forest fires in several locations in Indonesia.

"So, I'm proud of the achievements of our officers in the field. I'm conveying this on this occasion because, even though we face trials, even though we face obstacles and barriers, we are strong, we are capable, and we continue to prove it," he said.

He provided examples of how the government swiftly handled the disaster in Aceh some time ago, as well as the recent earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

As Head of State, the President continues to marshal the nation's strengths to address the various vulnerabilities. To that end, he ensures that the nation's wealth, Indonesia's strength, continues to be managed as well as possible and with utmost honesty, based on love for the homeland and a strong sense of responsibility.
